ISO 20121 certification – Toulouse Team is leading the way towards sustainable attractiveness
Toulouse Team, the Toulouse Métropole agency for regional attractiveness, is proud to announce that it has achieved ISO 20121 certification, which confirms its commitment to the region’s sustainable attractiveness. The ISO 20121 standard supports organisations in following a structured approach aimed at developing a strategy and conducting their activities within the framework of a responsible management system. It encourages organisations to consider the long-term impacts of their activities and to adopt more ethical and environmentally friendly practices. Building on this certification, Toulouse Team is now embarking on the development of a Master Plan for Sustainable Attractiveness for the period 2026–2030.
What is ISO 20121 certification?
ISO 20121 certification, developed by the International Organisation for Standardisation (ISO), is aimed at businesses, event agencies, venues, suppliers and associations, offering a structured approach to organising responsible events in line with the key principles of sustainable development.
A strong commitment to the future
Faced with the global challenges of climate change and limited resources, Toulouse Métropole is actively committed to addressing environmental and economic issues through an operational action plan. Adopted in 2019 and updated in 2022, the PCAET (Territorial Climate, Air and Energy Plan) sets ambitious targets for the metropolitan area’s ecological transformation.
The tourism sector, which is booming in the region with over 5 million hotel overnight stays (leisure and business) and more than 7,000 business events in 2024, as well as economic development, contributes to CO2 emissions. This is why Toulouse Team, responsible for leisure and business tourism, regional marketing, the establishment of foreign companies and film shoots, has chosen to integrate sustainable development issues into its governance, making CSR a strategic tool through ISO 20121 certification.
This international standard, achieved through such efforts, is not only the result of the considerable work carried out by the teams at Toulouse Team; it is also the highest form of recognition, enabling Toulouse to be counted amongst the destinations committed to sustainability, in line with the United Nations’ 17 Sustainable Development Goals. Toulouse Team now intends to continue playing its part, by involving local partners and stakeholders in this remarkable responsible initiative.
Jean-Claude Dardelet, President of Toulouse Team, Deputy Mayor, Vice-President of Toulouse Métropole.
Well done to the teams, well done to all those who continue the quest for virtue and ambition for a sustainable planet.
Concrete actions for a sustainable future
Toulouse Team has organised itself to make Toulouse a sustainable destination by focusing on two key areas: the implementation of a formalised internal CSR policy, and the mobilisation of external stakeholders and partners, to create the conditions for the development of an eco-responsible regional offering.
By September 2025, Toulouse Team will launch one of the first Master Plans for Sustainable Attractiveness, a roadmap developed in consultation with its partners for the period 2026–2030, aimed at enhancing the region’s appeal whilst adhering to the principles of sustainable development across the various sectors it encompasses: economic development, leisure and business tourism, film and TV production, regional marketing and the Toulouse Ambassadors’ Club.
