Greenerwave is setting up in Toulouse

At the heart of aerospace innovation

Greenerwave, the deep-tech start-up specialising in electromagnetic wave control, has announced the opening of its new offices in Toulouse to accelerate its growth. By setting up in the European capital of aerospace, the company is establishing itself at the heart of an ecosystem of excellence, bringing together France’s leading expertise in this field. This strategic location within a specialised technical environment will enable Greenerwave to drive forward its ambition: to revolutionise satellite communications through disruptive technology.

Its solution, which is passive and uses few semiconductors, enables the design of next-generation antennas that are more energy-efficient and have a reduced carbon footprint. Through this approach, Greenerwave also aims to help strengthen European technological sovereignty in a highly strategic sector.

A strategic location

Toulouse has established itself as one of Europe’s most dynamic space hubs, at the crossroads of innovation, research and industry. Beyond its historic roots in aeronautics, the city is now a recognised strategic hub for satellites, orbital technologies and space applications. By choosing to set up here, Greenerwave is joining a unique innovation ecosystem, conducive to accelerating its technologies and realising its ambitions.

In a context where satellite communications (Satcom) are playing an increasingly central role—whether in connectivity, defence or the management of critical infrastructure—innovation is becoming an essential driver of technological sovereignty. Greenerwave intends to contribute fully to this by offering passive, low-power solutions capable of redefining the standards for satellite communication antennas.
This new office not only enhances the company’s visibility within the ecosystem but also consolidates its position as a key player in NewSpace. It further reaffirms its commitment to actively contributing to European technological sovereignty, combining performance, independence and sustainability.

Toulouse is much more than an industrial hub: it is a hub of expertise, innovation and ambition. This presence is a key driver for raising the profile of our sovereign, resource-efficient and globally competitive European technology. Our mission is clear: to actively contribute to building a more resilient European space sector, one that relies on sustainable technologies capable of breaking free from critical dependencies.

Geoffroy Lerosey, CEO and co-founder of Greenerwave

Groundbreaking French technology tackling major industrial challenges

Founded in 2015 by Geoffroy Lerosey, a researcher at the CNRS, and Mathias Fink, a professor at ESPCI Paris, Greenerwave is developing a groundbreaking technology based on reconfigurable intelligent surfaces (RIS) and proprietary algorithms inspired by physics. This innovative approach enables signal-carrying waves to be directed more efficiently, in real time, by shifting complexity from hardware to software. This innovation significantly reduces equipment energy consumption and the use of semiconductors, paving the way for a new generation of high-efficiency antennas that are more energy-efficient and sustainable. Greenerwave benefits from the support of renowned strategic industrial and institutional partners, such as Intelsat and the DGA (French Defence Procurement Agency), who recognise the exceptional potential of its disruptive technology. These collaborations, which are based on genuine synergies, demonstrate the growing interest in innovative, high-value-added solutions in cutting-edge sectors such as space, defence and telecommunications.

Objectives of the Toulouse unit: testing, optimisation and integration

Currently comprising nearly 120 employees, mainly based in Paris, Greenerwave is expanding with an expert team in Toulouse, led by Thibault Maisonnat. Recruited locally, this team brings together professionals from Thales Alenia Space, Airbus Defence & Space and Eutelsat OneWeb.

As part of its industrial ramp-up, Greenerwave is therefore strengthening its capabilities through this new unit, which provides operational and technical support. It draws on the team’s solid expertise in the integration of complex solutions, particularly in the architecture of antennas for low Earth orbit (LEO) satellite constellations.
Based near the Cité de l’Espace, the Toulouse-based team benefits from state-of-the-art facilities, including an anechoic chamber, a dedicated outdoor structure for housing terminals undergoing validation (see images below) and the latest generation of radio frequency testing equipment. These facilities enable the team to carry out the integration and validation of the multi-orbit Satcom terminals developed by Greenerwave.

It was, in fact, at its new premises in Toulouse that the company recently hosted several clients – both French and international – as part of a campaign to demonstrate the capabilities of its LEO/GEO multi-orbit terminal. This series of successful demonstrations has confirmed the growing interest from leading players and has further boosted momentum around this disruptive technology.

The company plans to expand this team with several new roles by the end of 2025, and has made its intentions clear: to establish a long-term presence in Toulouse.

A successful relocation facilitated by tailored support from Toulouse Team Invest

Spotted in 2022 as part of SpaceFounders, a programme funded by CNES, Greenerwave’s relocation to Toulouse is the result of active and personalised support from Toulouse Team Invest, the team dedicated to the region’s economic development within the Toulouse Métropole business development agency.

Toulouse Team Invest organised a technical visit to enable the Greenerwave teams to explore the region and meet key local partners. Over two days, they were able to engage with organisations such as OneWeb, the TéSA laboratory and the Aerospace Valley competitiveness cluster. Toulouse Team Invest then supported the project in its search for premises that met the company’s specifications, in order to best meet the company’s needs.

We are delighted to welcome the Greenerwave teams to the European space capital. Their arrival strengthens an ambitious, dynamic and innovative local ecosystem. The disruptive technology they are implementing addresses major challenges that will benefit many stakeholders in our city. The Toulouse Team agency is proud to have supported Greenerwave at every stage of its establishment, from connecting them with the local network to finding suitable premises located in the immediate vicinity of the Cité de l’espace.
